The Vial is Filling…

God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.  Nahum 1:2-5

God sent Nahum to prophesy against Nineveh, a city He had spared approximately 148 years before, at the preaching of Jonah. Nineveh was a great city with a great sin but they repented at the preaching of Jonah.

Another generation came along that took the nation back to their original sin. A sin so grievous, a nation so rebellious that God told Nahum to tell Nineveh that their wickedness is so great that “there is no healing of thy bruise”. There was no cure for their illness. Sound familiar?

America is a great nation with a great sin. If we do not humble ourselves before God, confess our sins and turn from our wickedness, He will most assuredly take vengeance upon His adversary.

Do not think that because God delays in His judgement that He is slack concerning His promise. He just wants the nation to be aware that they have fully set their heart to sin before He does. So He delays.

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of. the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Eccl. 8:11

The picture here is as a vial that is filling. When it is filled the contents overflows. God is allowing the vial to fill with sin. When it is filled and overflowing… and there is no healing in thy bruise….then comes His judgement. I have found this principle to be true both individually as well as collectively. Worthy of consideration my friend.

When the judgement does come…. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. Nahum 1:6

The good news for the believer is- The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. Nahum 1:7
