Methodist, Baptist, Apathist?

The simple theory of the apathist:

Perhaps there is a god, or gods, or goddesses, or higher powers.

Perhaps not.

It’s irrelevant.

You do the most good you can with what you have.
If you get help from somewhere else,
that’s just icing on the cake.

  • One who is destitute of feeling.
  • Someone whose political and/or religious beliefs stem from a lack of care.
  • One who has no feeling towards anything, or more specifically religion.

In the 26th chapter of Acts, we see Paul stand and give his testimony before King Agrippa as to how the Lord met him on the road to Damascus. It was this life changing experience whereby Paul was a sent to the gentiles…

“to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”

“Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.”

“King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.”

Now King Agrippa was a Jew and was familiar with the prophets and what Moses did say, but look at his response……

“Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.”

In Agrippa, we see a gross spirit of apathy, hence his response to the gospel makes him an apathist.

Now I can attest to the fact that there are apathist in the world today. There are people, that when I share the gospel with them, they don’t get mad when you tell them that they are dead in their trespasses and sin and that God is full of mercy and grace and that He sent His Son to die for sin.

They don’t cop a violent or belligerent spirit and want to smack me in the nose. They just simply and politely say that they are not interested and they will take their chances that God will be merciful. Apathist they are….

Now we can be certain that many apathist have gone out into the world, but one would not think that the apathist would reside in the church?

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 1 Timothy 4:1-2

Maybe they are in the church…?
