‘the seed of suffering yields the fruit of glory’

AFGHANISTAN — In Afghanistan there were only 17 known evangelical Christians in the country before al-Qaeda attacked the United States. Today, there are well over 10,000 Afghan followers of Christ and the number is growing steadily. Church leaders say Afghan Muslims are open to hearing the gospel message like never before. Dozens of baptisms occur every week. People are snatching up Bibles and other Christian books as fast as they can be printed or brought into the country. Asia Harvest International

While browsing the Asia Harvest web site I ran across the above info in the News Section.

We must remember that the Lord is calling our Muslim friends with His glorious gospel as he is Jehovah Witness, Mormons, Hindu, Buddhist, Baptist, Methodist, etc…… the gospel is calling folk out of empty and vain religion everyday to the saving knowledge found only in Jesus Christ, for there is no other name given unto men whereby they might be saved. I should know, cause I was one called out.

Religion does not save, it only bounds. It’s only power rest in rites and duties that find no favor with God. It is a burdensome energy that has only temporal benefits.

What we understand from the news portion of Asia Harvest’s web site is that it is through trial and tribulation, suffering and pain, the gospel has its power. It was only when Stephen, the first New Testament martyr was stoned and Saul of Tarsus reeked havoc on the church, hailing both men and women into prison, that the gospel spread like a wild fire. Not only was the fire of the gospel set ablaze in Jerusalem but was now making its way throughout all the regions of Judaea and Samaria.

It is something that the enemies of the cross have never laid hold to. The hotter the persecution, the more effective the gospel… it is.

The more the church (our brothers and sisters) in Afghanistan is persecuted, the more fruit she shall yield for her Lord. It is a crazy truth and makes absolutely no sense, at least through human intellect.

Martin Luther had found this ‘persecution principle’ true….

“If the devil were wise enough and would stand by in silence and let the Gospel be preached, he would suffer less harm. For when there is no battle for the Gospel it rusts and it finds no cause and no occasion to show its vigor and power. Therefore, nothing better can befall the Gospel than that the world should fight it with force and cunning.”

But when true believers (like Stephen and others suffering for the cause of the gospel) stand face to face with opposition and adversity they find that they stand in His strength and not their own. When they stand upon His word, they shall find it is a firm foundation that has a faithful Saviour that carries us to His glory.

The church in America does not have a clue as to the truth of this principle, nor does it have any desire to serve their faith with such commitment. For ‘the devil has stood by in silence’ while another gospel has been preached in America. A gospel that has no power and caters to nothing more than the flesh. A gospel that will require such tribulation to remove the wheat from the chaff. A fire that shall raise the dross to top so that the true church in America can be purified.

“These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.”  John 16:1-3

“God, who foresaw your tribulation, has specially armed you to go through it, not without pain but without stain.”                C.S.Lewis
