‘Merry Christmas’

If you knew nothing of my thoughts on Christmas other than what has been written in ‘The Three Pillars of the American Christmas’ you would swear that I am a modern day Scrooge…. but not the case at all.

My heart is grossly saddened with the manner in which America, and yes, even the church, for we have raped and pillaged what Christendom attest to as the true meaning of Christmas.

What about all those pagan rituals and their associations to things other than Christ?

What about the cutting of the tree out of the forest, only to deck it with silver and gold that it may be fastened that it move not?

What about the corruption of tiny innocent minds as they anxiously anticipate that Christmas morn?

I believe the word of God teaches us some very important principles…

  • The Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. That is why it is imperative that the heart of the believer be established in this grace.
  • In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. Each person should have a personal conviction about this matter, and if someone esteems something is wrong, it is.
  • The word of God and the Spirit of God is sufficient for this day and who are we to condemn God’s servants? They are responsible to the Lord, so let him tell them whether they are right or wrong. The Lord’s power will help them do as they should. He is God my friend and He can handle the Celebration of Christmas.
  • After all my friend we are not our own masters when we live or when we die. While we live, we live to please the Lord. And when we die, we go to be with the Lord. So in life and in death, we belong to the Lord.
  • It was to this end that Christ died and rose again for this very purpose, so that he might be Lord of those who are alive and of those who have died. We shall stand before Him!

With all this said, I do not think that God turns a blind eye to the lustful, idolatrous, manner that savours the Christmas celebration in America today.

The Christian wants to blame the anti-christ spirit that is making every attempt to stomp out the Christ Child, yet the church is just as culpable for the spiritual fornication that has permeated the Christmas season.

I think the Apostle Paul’s admonition to the men of Athens is apropos…..

“He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs–for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need there is. From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand which should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries. “His purpose in all of this was that the nations should seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him–though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist. As one of your own poets says, `We are his offspring.’ And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone. God overlooked people’s former ignorance about these things, but now he commands everyone everywhere to turn away from idols and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.” Acts 17:24-31

Immanuel – God with us – reason to celebrate!

Now this is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Matt.1:18

Joseph, her fiancé, being a just man, decided to break the engagement quietly, so as not to disgrace her publicly. Matt.1:19

As he considered this, he fell asleep, and an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary. For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit. Matt.1:20

And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matt.1:21

All of this happened to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: Matt.1:22

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and he will be called Immanuel (meaning, God is with us).” Matt.1:23
