‘the suppression of light continued’

On March 22, 2009 I posted a report from the Associated Press ‘the suppression of light brings forth utter darkness’ concerning the Obama administration’s endorsement of a U.N. declaration calling for the worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.

Comments from the article detailed the administration expressed a concern for human rights around the world by saying…

“The United States is an outspoken defender of human rights and critic of human rights abuses around the world,” said one official. “As such, we join with the other supporters of this statement and we will continue to remind countries of the importance of respecting the human rights of all people in all appropriate international fora.”

Well, anyone that keeps up with the persecution of Christians through out North Korea, China, India, Iraq, Africa, etc… will understand that our government does not only care about the inhumane acts perpetrated against the body of Christ, but has taken a ‘blind eye’ approach to these heinous human right violations.

How can something so blatant receive nothing more than this ‘blind eye’ view?

It is because we are living in a world that is dominated by a spirit of darkness. In order for this darkness to prevail, light must be suppressed.

I have been considering this truth from a biblical perspective and found that there are three levels to this world’s attempt to suppress light.

For context; study out the 10 chapter of the Gospel of Matthew and Christ commissioning of His 12 disciples. Matthew 10:1-42

From the above mentioned text Christ did not attempt to deceive His disciples into taking the message of the Kingdom of Light to a world of darkness. He warned them that they would be met with great opposition. More importantly that the attempt to suppress the light would come in three different levels.

Level 1

Matt.10:14- And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

The first level is a wilful rejection of God’s Christ and His word. They simply choose to laugh the Word of God to disdain. We have heard the voice before… “I am not interested in your God nor His Christ, you may want to take Him to someone who is weak and feeble minded, maybe they will embrace this foolishness.”

Level 2

Matt. 10:17-18- But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

The second level moves up in intensity. When turning a deaf ear to the Word of God does not work and the Christian continues to espouse this ‘doctrine of sin and salvation’ the hearer becomes more aggressive.

The government intervenes and attempts to cast doubt and fear by threatening to take the believers stuff, material things. Tactics of physical beating and threats of imprisonment.

America does not have a clue as to what it means to live in jeopardy of loosing everything for the cause of following Christ. Our brothers and sisters in China and North Korea know what it truly means to sacrifice their all for their Lord. Pray they stand fast in this message!

Level 3

Matt. 10:28- And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

The final level and most aggressive in its attempt to suppress the light of the believer is to kill the body… Yes, even to lay down ones life for the cause of Christ.

When the opposition to the gospel becomes so vehement, the last resort is to kill the witness in order to shut the mouth.

The enemy understands fully that killing the witness does not and can not shut the mouth of the gospel. Even in immense persecution, the gospel spreads like a fire that can not be quenched.

Tertullian [200 AD] wrote “Go on, rack, torture, grind us to powder: our numbers increase in proportion as you mow us down. The blood of Christians is their harvest seed.”

If you are a Christian and are living in a country where you are not being persecuted for your faith, please consider praying for our brothers and sisters that are.

Remember them that are in bond, as bound with them. Pray that God will encourage them and under gird them as they faithfully stand upon the firm foundation of His word. I can assure you that these same believers that we are praying for today will one day be lifting us up in prayer as we find ourselves immersed in this same persecution as the world of darkness attempts to ‘suppress the light’

Peace
