‘a nation built upon sand’

“We will bury your grand-children without firing a shot”

Nikita Khrushchev before U.N. Council 1963

When Nikita Khrushchev made this statement before the U.N. Council, his intentions were most assuredly on a political front. After seeing the Berlin wall crumble in 1989, it seemed that there was no chance that this would ever happen in America. With the events that we see unfolding before our eyes everyday, his quote may prove to be more prophetic than we first  thought.

In George Barna’s book ‘Seven Faith Tribes’, statistical data compiled by The Barna Research Group reveals that not only is there a crumbling of our nation but that the under lying cause of such a great demise is

“the moral degradation and spiritual complacency of America”.

“The enemy of America today is not Iraq. It is not Afghanistan or communism. It is not Somalian pirates. It’s the moral degradation and spiritual complacency of Americans,”…  George Barna

America’s Seven Faith Tribes Hold the Key to National Restoration-

Apart from the current economic woes of the nation, bestselling author and researcher George Barna warns that the United States is immersed in a serious decline that shows no signs of reversal – and that it is not politicians but the country’s dominant faith communities that hold the key to restoring the nation to strength and stability.

The Impetus for Demise

Asked why the nation is in a downward spiral, the author of more than 40 books about American culture, faith and leadership noted the dramatic shift in goals and values that has redefined the United States in the past three decades.

“We have shifted our energy from a willingness to work hard toward achieving significant outcomes to an attitude of entitlement,” Barna noted. “Instead of merely accumulating and enjoying leisure time to get refreshed, we now use it to express ill-formed, narrow-minded opinions that preclude dialogue and personal learning. We expect the market to pander to our needs in customized and personalized ways, producing a fragmented marketplace. We have transitioned from having a commitment to the common good based on shared values to an emphasis on personal good and individual values.

“In the midst of all these – and other – transitions,” Barna continued, “our religious communities have not adapted well to the challenges of the day. Rather than facilitate people’s commitment to positive, life-affirming values and dedication to serving others, and living a balanced and moral life, churches and other ministries have fallen prey to the competitive spirit of the American system. Many of our religious organizations have focused on competing for bodies, dollars and talent rather than upholding core values such as service, obedience, simplicity, purpose, responsibility, accountability, humility, compassion and community. Without our faith tribes playing their historic role as the moral and spiritual leaders of the nation, we have taken our values cues from the political and business sectors. That has lowered the bar on character and vision. That, in turn, has led the nation to deteriorate from a place on unity amidst diversity to a place of individualism amidst competition for personal comfort and supremacy.”

Barna indicated that by ignoring the foundational values that built America has produced five dangerous outcomes:

  • the absence of a shared vision of the future
  • confusion regarding appropriate values for decision-making
  • the elimination of a sense of the common good
  • the deterioration of respectful dialogue and the fruitful exchange of competing ideas
  • and the abandonment of moral character and personal decency

I have always felt in my heart of hearts that the strength of a nation is grounded in a knowledge of God and obedience to His word. It is when that same nation stops praying, that it will eventually turn to sin and from God and His word. It seems to have it’s apparent start when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1962 that it was unconstitutional to pray in public schools all across America. Form that point on the apostasy is likened to the proverbial snow ball rolling down the hill.

We now have a leadership at the helm in our government that has publicly declared that…

“America is no longer a Christian Nation”.

My biggest regret is that America was the nation to prove that God’s word has been right all along.

Deuteronomy 8:10-14

“When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee. Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: Lest [when] thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt [therein]; And [when] thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;”

Verses 19 and 20 speak to the nation that forgets God and turns their back on His word and follows after other gods. May God have mercy on America

Deuteronomy 8: 19-20

“And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them,

I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.”

The demise of our nation is  is most certain if we do not humble ourselves and pray and repent and turn from our wicked way…….

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and obeys me is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse, because it is built on rock. But anyone who hears my teaching and ignores it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will fall with a mighty crash.” Matthew 7:24-27

  1. What a message! Poweful! When Khrushchev said, ” We will bury your grandchildren without firing a shot”, it was not a Russian that was making that vow but rather it was a promise from the enemy of this world who was speaking through him! How blind we are.

This country is imploding because we have sold out our Christian belief system to the world. By our complacency and inaction, the church has allowed the lie of the enemy to fill our government until now we as believers have been ostracized. To speak of God and the truth is now labeled intolerant and narrow minded. To protest against the killing of unborn children, to stand for traditional marriage, or to call as sin a deviant lifestyle now makes you a terrorist in this county! We are fast heading to the place of the persecuted church where to speak the truth is a crime! And iIt will get worse!

We have just closed the blinds and our eyes as we let the word of God get trampled on in this country. In Chapter 8 of Daniel, he was given a vision which foretold, “.and truth was thrown to the ground”. What better describes the times we are in?! Where is the light of the church as we are now told that American is not a Christian nation? When will enough be enough? Do you think that we can throw God out of our homes, our government, our schools, our courts and sadly EVEN OUR CHURCHES and think that he will continue to bless this country?

God has sent out his word. We have been warned!

Very interesting perspective Marianne. I remember when I was considering the words of Christ to the religious leaders of His day… John chapter 8

“Ye are of your father the devil. The lust of your father, ye will do”

Since then I have looked at the actions of people a lot differently. For instance when pharaoh set his heart to slaughter the male children born in Egypt, he was doing it because he was concerned about the possibility of them becoming his very enemies while prospering among the camp. Satan was looking at it from the timeliness of a promised deliver… 430 years coming to an end.

It was the same with Herod when duped by the magi, set his heart to slaughter a potential king, but Satan looking for a much more powerful figure…. the Son of God…. a Saviour that would redeem a lost world from his fist.

Since then I have never been surprised to see how Satan can influence the wicked heart of a man or woman that is lost in spiritual darkness.. Children of disobedience walking according to the course of this world…according to the power of this world.

    Very perceptive!

Amen, we are most assuredly living in a day in which we are witnessing the casting down of truth. To your point, the world that is in bondage to spiritual ignorance has no clue, sad but true, many that profess the name of Christ or better yet don the name of Christian has neither a clue.

Peace as you saturate your mind with His word and as we seek to be light and salt in this world of darkness.
