killing God

The Massacre of the Innocents (detail) by Lucas Cranach the Elder (c. 1515), National Museum in Warsaw

The above painting is Cranach’s depiction of the biblical narrative of infanticide by Herod the Great, the Roman-appointed King of the Jews. According to the Gospel of Matthew,[1]

When the Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. Get up, he said, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him. So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old or under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more." Matt. 2:13-18

The purpose of Herod’s order to kill all the boys surrounding Bethlehem, two years and younger, had one specific child as its target, Immanuel, Yeshua Ha Mashiach, the ONE child the wise men had traversed afar to worship. The rest of the children caught up in the murder were mere collateral damage, which can be likened to the innocent babies that are slaughtered (57 million+ since 1973) at the hand of the abortion industry.

Herod never considered his decree as an attempt to “kill God”, his only focus was the prophecy concerning a child that was to be “the king of the Jews”… political in nature… sounds all too familiar!

Now Satan (the spirit behind the curtain), quite the contrast. He had a very specific agenda, it was to kill the Messiah. After all he is a liar and a murderer from the beginning, and the lust of the father, his children will do.

America’s Killing of God-

“gott ist tot” – German translation- “God is dead”

Gott ist tot is the all familiar quote by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. It first appears in Nietzsche’s 1882 collection The Gay Science (German: Die fröhliche Wissenschaft), in sections 108 (New Struggles), 125 (The Madman), and for a third time in section 343 (The Meaning of our Cheerfulness). It is also found in Nietzsche’s classic work Thus Spoke Zarathustra (German: Also sprach Zarathustra), which is most responsible for popularizing the phrase. The idea is stated in "The Madman" as follows: God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it? — Nietzsche, The Gay Science, Section 125, tr. Walter Kaufmann [2]

At face value, the quote has quite the negative connotation, imagine man’s futile attempt to “kill God”.

The Philosophy Index, a philosophical think tank, that provides  interpretations of philosophical works and an overview of the basics in philosophy, says the quote is often taken out of context.

The meaning of the phrase is often misunderstood — many have interpreted that Nietzsche believed in a literal death or end of God. Instead, the line points to the western world’s reliance on religion as a moral compass and source of meaning.

Nietzsche’s works express a fear that the decline of religion, the rise of atheism, and the absence of a higher moral authority would plunge the world into chaos. The western world had depended on the rule of God for thousands of years — it gave order to society and meaning to life. Without it, Nietzsche writes, society will move into an age of nihilism. Although Nietzsche may have been considered a nihilist by definition, he was critical of it and warned that accepting nihilism would be dangerous. [3]

ni·hil·ism ˈnīəˌlizəm,ˈnēəˌlizəm/

noun -the rejection of all religious and moral principles, often in the belief that life is meaningless.

synonyms:
skepticism, negativity, cynicism, pessimism;

  • PHILOSOPHY-extreme skepticism maintaining that nothing in the world has a real existence.
  • HISTORICAL-the doctrine of an extreme Russian revolutionary party circa 1900, which found nothing to approve of in the established social order.

The Philosophy Index’s take on what Nietzsche’s thoughts on nihilism, and what his quote truly meant, is the topic for consideration.

What would America, devoid of a moral compass look like?

What would the Western world that had depended on God for hundreds of years, which gave order to society and meaning to life look like if they forsook the same?

Spend some time watching the news as to what is happening in the world, more importantly, what is happening in America.

The culprit is not  nihilism, the rejection of all religious and moral principles, often in the belief that life is meaningless, it is a society that is devoid of Yahweh and His Messiah. What Herod attempted and failed to do at the birth of Jesus, the religious folk of Christ day attempted the same, yet NO man took His life, He laid it down, an offering for sin. He who knew no sin, became sin that we might have His righteousness.

As America continues to allow God’s presence and influence to be pushed from her society, we shall surely see the demise of the same. Consider the following admonition…

Mat 12:43  When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

Mat 12:44  Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

Mat 12:45  Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

… Just look at the United States of America.

biblioklepts beware!

bib·li·o·klept

[bib-lee-uh-klept]- noun ; a person who steals books.

Origin:
1880–85; biblio- + Greek kléptēs thief

biblio-a combining form occurring in loan words from Greek ( bibliography  );on this

model, used in the formation of compound words with the meaning “book” ( bibliophile  ), and sometimes with the meaning“Bible” ( bibliolatry, on the model of idolatry  ).

Origin:
1300–50; Middle English bible, bibel  < Old French bible  < Medieval Latinbiblia (feminine singular) < Greek, in tà biblía tà hagía (Septuagint) theholy books; biblíon, byblíon papyrus roll, strip of papyrus, equivalent tobýbl ( os ) papyrus (after Býblos, a Phoenician port where papyrus wasprepared and exported) + -ion noun suffix

It came to pass in the fourth year (604BC; for historical context cf: Jeremiah 36) of Jehoiakim, King of Judah, that God commanded Jeremiah to write a catalog of all the messages that God had given him to dispense to His people since the days of Josiah, Jehoiakim’s father. This spanned a period of approximately 23 years. The accounts of these audible sermons can be found scattered throughout Jeremiah chapters 1 – 36.

What had been only spoken previously, must now be written, so that it might be prayerfully considered, and that it might spread the further and last the longer, so that WE might learn from the same admonition.

The purpose of recalling the earlier sermons, was that God desired that the house of Judah would hear all the evil which He purposed to do unto them; that they may return every man from their evil way, and that God could forgive their iniquity and their sin.

So Jeremiah summoned Baruch the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD which He had spoken unto him upon a scroll of a book.

With the Word of God in written format, Jeremiah had been forbidden from attending the services at the temple (sounds like many churches across America, that would really rather not hear the unadulterated word of God), so in instructed Baruch to take the written scroll and present it in the ears of the LORD’s people when they came to the temple for the day of fasting. Baruch did all that Jeremiah had instructed him to do.

Eventually the Holy Writ was heard by all the people, the scribes, the princes and eventually the King himself. As Jehudi read the contents of the scroll to the king, he would take a pen-knife and cut the pages and burn them in the fire on the hearth until the entire scroll had been consumed.

So how was the word of God received by His people? The word of God tells us “yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king nor any of his servants that heard the words of the scroll”.

A little over 2,600 years later…… modern day if you please.

US: Words ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ axed from marriage certificates christian.org.uk – The Christian Institute Posted 28-November-2012

The article from The Christian Institute is posted in its entirety.

The health department in the US state of Washington is to remove the words “husband” and “wife” from marriage and divorce certificates, after same-sex marriage was approved in a recent referendum.

The state began changing the legal document wording before the public vote even happened, according to a spokesman.

Tim Church, from the health department, said spaces once reserved for a “bride” and “groom” will become more gender-neutral.

’Spouse A & B’- He said: “We are proposing a change where it will say something like ‘Spouse A’ and ‘Spouse B’.”

The law comes into effect on 6 December, 2012.

Over 30 states have voted against redefining marriage, just three have voted in favour.

Removed- The UK Government has said the words “husband” and “wife” will have to be removed from official documents if marriage is redefined.

And in France, the words “mother” and “father” are set to be stripped from official documents, under its plans to redefine marriage.

The move would see the word “parents” used in identical marriage ceremonies for both heterosexual and homosexual weddings.

Pledge- François Hollande, the French President, pledged to introduce same-sex marriage in his manifesto.

In Spain, terms such as “mother” and “father” have become “Progenitor A” and “Progenitor B” on birth certificates.

Now what we see taking place in Washington state, the UK, France and Spain can be likened to what we saw when Jehudi read the contents of the scroll to the king,  and then took a pen-knife and cut the pages and burn them in the fire on the hearth until the entire scroll had been consumed.

Understanding that marriage was ordained of God and established upon the principles of His word, and the family is the fruit of this institution, it should not alarm us that  man has chosen to put his hand to His word in an attempt to steal it away or in essence making it void and null.

For the record, the story did not end with Jehudi burning the pages of the scroll in the fire. We are told in Jeremiah 36:27 & 28 that the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah saying, “take thee again another roll and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.” Man in all his wisdom and intellect can not thwart the word of God.

Now for the Word of God to meet such opposition from the world should not be counted a strange thing, but when the church(the seeming people of God) takes a pen-knife and begins to cut and paste to make the word palatable to the flesh is most dangerous at best.

At the conclusion of the book of the Revelation, God warns “that if any man shall add to the words of the prophecy of this book, that God will add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. If one takes away from the word of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city and from the things which are written in this book”.  For man to edit what God’s word clearly states is a very dangerous thing, if not in this life, most assuredly in the one to come.

My friend, don’t participate in the likes of Jehudi and Jehoiakim, even if it is what the church endorses.

His word will not return void. It will accomplish all that He sends it to do.

"Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me." Martin Niemoller

Who will speak for those who can't speak for themselves?

“Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, ‘But we knew nothing about this’, does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who guards your life know it? Will not He repay each one according to what he has done?” Proverbs 24:11-12
